Research Institutions

Academic and Research Institutions: The vast multitude of research produced today at universities, labs, and research institutions is created in relative isolation - researchers are disconnected from others, data is trapped behind firewalls and lost in databases and notes. This information cannot be shared, accessed, integrated into other knowledge tools or presented to the collective intelligence of the wider community. Ultimately it is usually forgotten.

KIN allows for superior research, data mining and collaboration of un-structured data (the 85% of all data that is un-published or existing in journals). Data intensive researchers have a critical need to develop the means to explore, work with, and manage this un-structured data. Mastering this information infrastructure leads to interconnections between scientists, research groups, facilities and resources, allowing for an understanding of the “nature” of data, how to work with it, who is behind it and how to benefit from it in the future.
